Veronica Hermiston

Veronica Hermiston, director and founder of MSASI, is a local girl who has lived in the area most of her life.  As a farm girl, her love of animals was evident and now, that love has unexpectedly led her to open the Mozart Animal Sanctuary.

She and the devoted directors and volunteers lovingly rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals in the surrounding communities of Mozart.  Since opening its doors in 2021, the sanctuary has helped over 2000 canines and felines.

She emphasizes how privileged she is to work with these innocent beings and will continue to advocate for the voiceless.

I’m Evelyn Moore-Holowaty, a Foam Lake representative from MSASI. My husband and I ran Reel Marine for many years and have recently retired.

My life with animals started at a very young age as my father ran Wachenburg Kennels. He was a breeder of German Shepard dogs, winning many titles in obedience trials throughout Ontario. Our training hall was open to the many people interested in obedience training. We spend many hours on tracking and Schutzhund training. In between all the dogs, there were cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, and every animal I could rescue. My love for these animals never ended when I moved west, there have always been 4-5 animals in my homeWith the capture of Momma and her 2 kittens, brought me to Veronica Hermiston and MSASI. With my knowledge of animals, it’s my hope I can be an asset to this organization and I’m honored to work with such caring and devoted people!

Wendy Hunt

My name is Wendy Hunt. I am a director, volunteer, and foster for Mozart Sympawthy Animal Sanctuary Inc.

I grew up on a farm near Rose Valley, Saskatchewan, where my love for animals began. During my 18 years on the farm, I have had the pleasure of tending to many different animals: cattle, sheep, chickens, geese, horses, rabbits, budgies, dogs, and cats. Most of my time was spent with the cats and dogs, but especially the cats. Countless hours were spent taming them, looking for their kittens, and playing with them all. I even ‘helped’ one of my favorite momma cats birth a litter of 8 kittens when I was young. I currently have a 14-year-old Shih-tzu Bichon mix who I’ve had since he was a pup.

When I was given the opportunity to be a part of MSASI in 2021, I wholeheartedly accepted the chance to help those voiceless animals in need, hoping to improve their lives. Little did I realize the impact they would have on my own. I love my time volunteering at and being involved with MSASI. I have learned a lot about animals, and people, and about the crisis we are facing largely due to overpopulation and the need to educate pet owners on the responsibility tied to that title. I am honored to stand beside Veronica, all of our amazing directors, volunteers, fosters, and our wonderful supporters who help our ’cause for the paws’.

I was lucky enough to be one of the ones who helped Veronica get the Sanctuary started and then become a Charitable organization. My involvement with MSASI is much more in the background. I am keeping the financial/bookkeeping up to date. And the different reports that have to be submitted to the CRA. I also hold the same position with the Wadena Food Bank. I enjoy helping organizations that I believe in. And Mozart SymPAWthy Animal Sanctuary Inc., I very much believe in!

So with working full time, being involved in two Charities, and having a family, I still manage to spend time with my horses, joining the Long Riding group and going on rides in the province.
